E.C.H.O. Players Arts Fund
E.C.H.O. Players is a non-profit Society in good standing governed by an elected Board of 11 active members. We currently have approximately 230 members who participate to a greater or lesser extent in all the activities of the organization. It is estimated that the Village Theatre attracts between 8,000-10,000 people per year from Nanaimo to Bowser. We own the Village Theatre in Qualicum Beach that has been designated as a Heritage Building. Our current major income source is from the sale of tickets and supplemented by sponsorship from local businesses. Currently, we do not receive any direct government support. Our building is approaching 70 years in age and requires on going maintenance such as a new roof, heat pump replacement, and general upgrading including LED lighting. These costs are high and the Board realize that we need to generate additional funds through focused donations and fundraising events. In order to maintain our theatre and continue to provide quality entertainment, the Board of Directors, at the May 16th meeting 2016, approved the creation of the E.C.H.O. Players Arts Fund. The objects of this Fund are as follows:
1. Maintain our Heritage Building.
2. Provide ongoing requirements necessary for quality productions
3. Provide community support through workshops, scholarships and facilities.
4. Contribute to the love of theatre by such things as having a professionally painted mural on the west wall of the theatre depicting local actors.
A committee has been formed to lead our fundraising activities and the first event was a Summer Solstice Fundraiser. This invitation only event raised over $13,000. A number of additional events have been held with the fund now approaching $48,000. Our target for the first year is $60,000 and it appears that target is realistic.
Our first project is a full wall mural created by celebrated artist David Goatley and mounted on the west wall of the Village Theatre. It will be officially unveiled on July 1st, 2017- the 150th Celebration of Confederation.
The Board of E.C.H,O. Players invites those who believe in the mission statement of this new fund to become a Founding Member. Founding membership is open to all at one of three levels:
Platinum - $1,000
Gold – $750
Silver - $500
Founding Members will be accepted until June 1st, 2017 and will receive a season ticket package depending on the level of donation. All Founding Members will be acknowledged on a wall of Honour located at the Village Theatre.
