Shadows From a Low Stone Wall

by Roy Teed
directed by Robb Mowbray

TICKETS AVAILABLE AUGUST 15, 2025

The saying goes “Old soldiers never die, they simply fade away”. Not so with cranky old ex-army guy Jack.  He will not surrender to the old folks' home without a good fight.  His schoolteacher daughter thinks if he can only visit her classroom of young innocents, it might loosen his stubborn resolve.  This could be a tall order though.  When describing what serving your country was like in 1943, will Jack expose his soft centre or a wound that has never healed?  This is an adult drama about all the battles we face in life when only a low stone wall separates us from delicious peace.

ECHO Players welcomes Quesnel writer Roy Teed and veteran local director Robb Mowbray to the Village Theatre.  After its run in Qualicum Beach the play will be entered into the Theatre BC Festival.

Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)

by Ann-Marie MacDonald
directed by Brian Mather

TICKETS AVAILABLE AUGUST 15, 2025

Constance Ledbelly falls down a rabbit hole. In this exuberant comedy, a drab and dusty academic deciphers a cryptic manuscript she believes to be the original source of Othello and Romeo & Juliet and soon crashes down into the plays themselves. Constance visits Juliet and Desdemona, helps save their lives, and finds out exactly what these women are about!

In true Shakespearean spirit, Constance plunders the plays, all the while engaging in a personal voyage of self-discovery. With an abundance of twists, fights, dances, seductions and wild surprises, the play is an absolute joy of theatricality.

This Canadian play is a winner of the Governor General’s Award for Drama and is written by the author of Fall On Your Knees. Welcome back Director Brian Mather after his breath-taking work with this year’s hit The Revolutionists.

Oklahoma! Youth Edition

ECHO’s Teen Musical Theatre presents Oklahoma! Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.

This hare-brained tale is set in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1959.  A newly arrived English widow has a very delicate disclosure to make to her brand new beau - and she arranges for an etiquette expert to help her down this tricky path.  At first it starts out well but soon things get out of hand - four solid doors are slammed, drinks are tossed, identities are mistaken - and the action moves at a very tidy clip.  These are eccentric people in eccentric situations and the dialogue peels off like a 1940’s cocktail party - frightfully polite but with Oscar Wildly twists.
